Promoting Corporate Family Responsibility (CFR)

Mission and objectives

The International Center for Work and Family (ICWF)’s mission is to promote Corporate Family Responsibility in business, in order to promote leadership, culture and reconciliation policies that facilitate the integration of employees´ work, family and personal life.

Why is our mission important?

We have witnessed what is undoubtedly one of the most important socio-demographic changes in the labor force in the post-industrial era: women have entered the labor force on a massive scale.

One of the consequences of this socio-demographic shift is an increase in work-family conflict.

Work-family conflict consequences:

Societal level

  • Low birth rates
  • Lack of adequate work-family arrangements
  • Unstable job conditions for younger generations
  • High divorce rates
  • Children spending many hours a day watching TV or playing video games
  • Increase of school failure rates

Organizational level

  • Difficulties in the recruitment of key employees
  • High staff turnover
  • Lack of mobility
  • Absenteeism
  • Problems with expatriates and multinational careers
  • Poor working environment
  • Performance problems

Individual level

  • Work-family conflicts
  • Career interruptions
  • Burn-out
  • Stress
  • Depression

Objectives

  • Promote a person-centered organizational culture.

  • Develop the necessary talent and skills to create the organizational culture that facilitates work and family life balance.

  • Generate Corporate Family Responsibility and equal opportunity policies and practices.

  • Improve working conditions and career tracks of individuals in organizations, who we believe are deserving of balanced and quality professional and family lives.

  • Promote employees commitment and satisfaction, increasing companies’ competitiveness and sustainability.

  • Research, analyze and promote women´s professional development and the integration of the various aspects of their lives to achieve full potential.

  • Engage governments and other public institutions to elaborate policies aiming to facilitate Corporate Family Responsibility practices.
